So I took a hold of this rope where the boats, you see, it was still, you see, at the back raised up, you see as the front going down. So I took a hold of one of those rope and let myself down a ways as far as I could. And then I let go, and I went into the water and lost my hat and trouble swallowing the water. And there was a lot of them in the water you could see. Oh, did you see them hollering in all different [unrecognizable word]. So I tried to get away from the ship because I knew there wasn't long, I was, till the ship, the the bow must have been under the water when I jumped off. So I tried to get away and one fellow grabbed me. Got Ahold of me like this here and got Ahold of the, I had a life preserver on. But he got his arms over my, my neck, you see, like this here, and I tried to get away from him, but there was no use to get away from him. So I think it was just as the ship, the last I could see the lantern was still burning on the back of the ship, you see. And you could see the propellers way out of the water, you see. And the front was down and it just like it must have been as the ship went right under, it seemed like it sucked us back a little. And this fella leg go on. And so I tried again to swim to get away from her. And the fella got ahold of my leg like this, and he hung on for a long time. But finally he let go. Well, then I saw a kind of a shadow a little ways from me. And that was some people that hung on to one of those collapsible boats. I don't know if they'd been thrown out or if it had been, uh, hanged on to it from the ship, I don't know, but that probably was, uh, ten, fifteen or something like that, I don't know exactly on the were standing on this here raft, so I swim toward that. And when they saw me in the water why they said, don't get on, you'll capsize. Well, I went toward the end of it and got myself up there and, and raised up, you know, so there we stood, because the ship was already gone. And we stood there for six hours in this here water. Toward the morning, as here started to blow. And there was one of those collapsible boats that was fixed up.
